15 Out Of This World Science Facts.

  1. Raindrops, tear drops, they're practically the same thing. Even though the former is always depicted as the latter in drawings, raindrops are actually spherical in shape.
  2. The average hurricane produces a vast amount of energy which can easily be the equivalent to 8000 megaton bombs.
  3. Three billion of the globe's six billion population are under the age of 25 years-old. that means that 50% of all human beings on the world haven't made it 26 yet! 3 billion of the world’s 6 billion population are under the age of 25.
  4. With adults ranging from 12-16 metres long and weighing nearly 79,000 pounds, the Humpback whale is known to produce one of the largest noises in the world. The low frequency call it often makes is the loudest noise made by a living creature and can be heard from 500 miles away. 
  5. It's said that on the day that famed inventor Alexander Graham Bell was buried, the entire United States telephone system was shut down in his honour for at least one minute in tribute. Because of our advances in technology, the tribute is no longer an annual event. 
  6. Several reports have shown that more germs are transferred shaking hands than kissing.
  7. As studies have shown, one in every 2000 babies is born with a tooth, a feat stemming mostly from the genetics of the parents.  
  8. Grizzly bears are often documented for moving at unexpected speeds. Polar Bears can run at 25 miles per hour and can jump over six feet in the air. They're also oddly undetectable by infrared cameras due to their transparent fur. 
  9. Scientists are now capable of producing a laser light that's at least a million times brighter than the light we receive off of the Sun or the Moon. Heat temperatures haven't been recorded but it's likely that you wouldn't want to stare directly into that laser!  
  10.   Giraffes often sleep for only 20 minutes at a time in a span of 24 hours and while they may sleep up to two hours (in spurts and not all at once), it rarely happens. They're also known to never lie down with their bodies stretched out. 
  11. When it comes to insects, the average person accidentally eats 430 bugs every year.
  12. The ocean actually contains enough salt to cover almost all of the continents in the world to a depth of nearly 500 feet. 
  13. The highest speed every achieved on a bicycle is 166.94 miles per hour and by Dutch record holder Fred Rompelberg. 
  14. Dolphins actually don't drink water. In fact, they get all the liquids they need from the food they consume. 
  15. The risk of being struck by a falling meteorite is one in every 9,300 years.
